A game-like tackle drill. Pairs jog around a grid; when the coach calls a pair, the player with the ball heads for a two-metre gate of cones and their partner has to get round to meet them in it. The tackler steps in close, gets their head to the side of the carrier rather than in front (cheek to cheek), wraps the thighs and drives through. Both go to ground: the carrier places the ball back, the tackler rolls away, gets back to their feet and competes for it. Start at walking pace and build up as technique holds.
